Oliver One Step Closer to Dream.

Oliver Nelson a Cub Scout from 1^st Herne Bay Scout Group was born with Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy caused by a lack of oxygen when born prematurely. This causes his muscles to be abnormally tight. He has limited walking with a frame indoors but uses a chair when out and about or when joining in with his Cub Pack activities.He is often uncomfortable and very tired because his body has to work so hard to do every little thing.Whilst there is no cure for cerebral palsy, Oliver has been offered hope in the form of a life changing operationcalled Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). The operation, followed by intensive physiotherapy will give Oliver far better mobility, increase his independence, as well as making him generally more comfortable and reducing the need for future surgery.

Oliver is raising funds to go to America for the operation and on Saturday 6^th February 1^st Herne Bay Scout Group held a Wine and Wisdom for Oliver raising £658 towards his target of £26,000. During the event Canterbury Herne Bay and Whitstable District Scouts announced a donation of £5000 to significantly boost Oliver's efforts. A cheque was presented to Oliver's dad Alistair by Paul Waller Deputy District Commissioner, Jamie Bentley District Youth Commissioner and Sean Drury Deputy Youth Commissioner and Chris Mears Group Scout Leader at 1^st Herne Bay Scout Group.
